Abstract
Section titled āAbstractāWe predict an 11.5% loss reduction in a grid-connected PV system with Perturb & Observe (P-&-O) algorithm based Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) control by placing Diamond MOSFETs in lieu of the conventional Silicon MOSFET switches inside the CCM-CLC type DC-DC Boost converter as well as the Space Vector controlled DC-AC Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) with Power Factor Correction. We have used the system design tool SABER to replicate the actual setup where we impose the solar irradiance levels by a sun-selector multiplexer. The control algorithm is modeled using the StateAMS tool. Our switch was first calibrated to an experimentally fabricated Diamond device in the device simulation tool ATLAS and then placed as a symbol on SABER with the help of device-to-system interfacing flow that we developed earlier. We have observed the power generated by the PV modules and current fed to the grid for both sunny and cloudy days on COSMOSCOPE. Precise loss calculation has been done for the cases considered, and a comparative loss assessment is also conducted with switches made up of different Wide Bandgap (WBG) materials.
