Diamond-like carbon film has the similar excellent properties to diamond film as one of amorphous carbon films, such as high hardness and elastic modulus, high thermal conductivity, low coefficient of thermal expansion, and extremely low friction coefficient. At present, diamond-like carbon film has been widely applied in various fields such as automobile, mould, tools, and so on. In this paper, a new diamond-like carbon coating containing Cr transition layer is deposited based on the cathodic arc technology. The thickness, adhesion, friction coefficient, and other relative performance of the coating are measured and analysed. The results indicate that the bonding status of the new film has been improved obviously, compared to that without a transition layer. The proposed method also provides a new technical guidance for the preparation of diamond-like carbon with stronger adhesion strength.
