Abstract
Section titled āAbstractāThis paper presents a diamond-shaped biosensor using a two-dimensional photonic crystal to measure the glucose concentration in urine. The proposed sensor is designed to operate linearly in the range of 0 - 5 gm/dl. The size of the designed biosensor is 11.4 μm Ć 11.4 μm and consists of a ring resonator and two waveguides. The ring resonator is mounted in the center of the structure with two end waveguides on both sides. The detection process is based on the resonant wavelength shift due to the change in the analyte refractive index. The proposed sensor is analyzed by COMSOL Multiphysics software, and MATLAB is used to plot the simulation results. The results demonstrate that the resonant wavelength shift is linearly related to the changes in the refractive index. The maximum quality factor and the sensitivity of the biosensor are respectively obtained around 1874.83 and 364.54 nm/RIU. Such an attribute combination turns the designed structure into a promising element for medical and biological applications.
