Surface processing and modification of CVD diamond with ultrashort pulse laser

The surface modification of CVD diamond with femto-second laser irradiation has been studied. CVD diamond films grown on cemented carbide tools were irradiated with 550 fs laser pulses. At higher fluence, CVD diamond has ablated. At lower fluence than ablation threshold, appearance of CVD diamond surface hasn’t changed but the surface quality has changed. The effect of surface modification is observed by Raman spectroscopy. The results of Raman spectroscopy show increases into both crystalized diamond and ID / IG ratio.
