Harnessing electron spins with carbon materials for quantum information applications

Electron spins in carbon materials, including paramagnetic fullerenes, diamond with NV- centers, and graphene nanoribbons, have long coherence time that is suitable for quantum information applications. In this perspective, we discuss how to harness electron spins with carbon materials. The development of the methods to introduce spin centers, combined with the manipulation and readout techniques for spin quantum states, provide a cascade of applications ranging from quantum sensing to quantum computing.
